Go to the University of North Carolina’s “Documenting the South: North American Slave Narratives” at http://docsouth.unc.edu/neh/.  Choose “Browse the selection alphabetically” to see the list of narratives and then choose any two to read and answer the following questions.

1.     Summarize in 1-2 paragraphs the first narrative that you read.
2.     Summarize in 1-2 paragraphs the second narrative that you read.
3.     How are these narratives similar?  Do the characters have a similar life journey?  Do they both achieve freedom?  How are they treated-fairly, poorly, etc?  (1-2 paragraphs)
4.     Does this person explain why he is writing this narrative?  If so, why?  If not, why do you think they are writing this narrative?
5.     Describe any emotions you felt as you were reading this narrative.
